“Suffrage in Appalachia: A Complicated Subject in the Conservative South” Join the Edith Bolling Wilson Birthplace Museum on Sunday June 2nd at 3pm as we take a deeper look at how suffrage was viewed, supported, and opposed in Appalachia. Edith was against the behavior of the Suffragists, but lived the life of an independent-minded business woman. Dr. Randolph Hollingsworth, author and retired PhD from the University of Kentucky, who is currently with the Kentucky Woman Suffrage Project will speak on the how the ideas of the conservative south and independent minded Appalachian beliefs created an interesting juxtaposition in regards to women’s suffrage.
